Board Policy 6158 – Independent Study

 NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Governing Board of the Southern Humboldt Unified School District, at a Special Board Meeting on August 19, 2021, will hold a public hearing to receive public comment concerning the adoption of Board Policy 6158 – Independent Study.

When developing policy on independent study, 5 CCR 11701 requires the Board to consider, in a public hearing, (1) the scope of its existing or prospective use of independent study as an instructional strategy, (2) its purposes in authorizing independent study, and (3) factors bearing specifically on the maximum realistic lengths of assignments and acceptable number of missed assignments for specific populations of students or adult students.

At the hearing, any resident in the District may provide public comment on the consideration and potential adoption on Board Policy 6158 – Independent Study.  A copy of Board Policy 6158 is attached to the July 29, 2021, Board Meeting agenda, which is available online at www.sohumusd.com.

Stakeholders who wish to provide comments may do so by emailing publiccomment@sohumusd.com by 1:00 p.m. on the day of the meeting. Comments will be read aloud during the meeting. Meeting will be held via zoom.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
JUNE 28,2021

LOCAL CONTROL ACCOUNTABILITY PLAN (LCAP) AND SHUSD BUDGET FOR 2021-2022

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Governing Board of the Southern Humboldt Unified School District, at a Special Board Meeting on June 28,2021, will hold a public hearing on the on the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) and the SHUSD Budget for 2021-2022,

Copies of the LCAP and Budget may be inspected at the district office (during normal business hours) or on the district website 72 hours prior to the hearing. All interested parties are encouraged to attend this meeting. The final LCAP and Budget adoption will then take place at a Special Meeting scheduled on Tuesday, June 29, 2021.

Per Education Code (EC) Sections 42127 and 52062, two separate Governing Board public meetings, held at least one day apart, are now required for the school district budget hearing and budget adoption. In addition, the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) Public Hearing must occur at the same meeting as the Budget Adoption. The Public Hearings require 72 hours public notice and both the 2021-22 Budget and Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) must be adopted on or before July 1, 2021.

Annual Service & Budget Plans – Public Hearing June 17, 2021 9 AM

June 17 @ 9:00 am – 9:30 am

TOPIC:     The California Department of Education (CDE) requires that each SELPA annually obtain approval from its governing body for budget and service plans following a public hearing.   The plans must be submitted to the CDE prior to June 30 for final approval.

PURPOSE:    The Humboldt-Del Norte Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) Superintendent’s Policy Council will conduct a public hearing to receive comment by the members of the community on the 2021-22 Annual Service and Budget Plan.  Copies of the Plan are available for viewing in the SELPA Office at 2822 Harris Street, Eureka from May 17 – June 17, 2021, posted on the Humboldt – Del Norte Website – Publications State Notices Section and attached.  All member LEAs are required to post on their individual websites as well.

October 8, 2020
Instructional Materials Sufficiency Intended for Traditional Academic Calendar 2020/21
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Governing Board of the Southern Humboldt Unified School District, at the Regular Board Meeting on October 8, 2020, will hold a public hearing on the Education Code Section 60119, which establishes steps and procedures to ensure the availability of textbooks and instructional materials.
The Board shall encourage participation by parents, teachers, members of the community interested in the affairs of the school district, and bargaining unit leaders, and shall make a determination, through a resolution, as to whether each pupil in each school in the district has sufficient textbooks or instructional materials, or both, that are aligned to the content standards adopted pursuant to Section 60605 or 60605.8 in each of the following subjects, as appropriate, that is consistent with the content and cycles of the curriculum framework adopted by the state board:
(i) Mathematics
(ii) Science
(iii) History-social science
(iv) English/language arts, including English language development component of an adopted program

Learning Continuity and Attendance Plan

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Governing Board of the Southern Humboldt Unified School District, at the Special Board Meeting on September 28, 2020, will hold a public hearing on the district’s Learning Continuity and Attendance Plan for the 2020/21 school year, prior to final adoption, as required by Education Code Section 43509. The purpose of this plan is to describe how the district will address the impacts of COVID-19 and maintain continuity of student learning during the 2020/21 school year.
